After about a month in closed preview, Mozillaca, a micro-blogging site for the Mozilla community is finally open to the public.

Powered by Laconica, the open source microblogging engine, and setup and operated by a team of volunteers, it is pretty simple to follow and use  thanks to its simple interface and functionality.

The first one, features the Firefox robot in victorious pose with pieces of past robot scenes in the background, Firefox praise at the bottom mimicking a movie poster, actually inspired by an Indiana Jones poster.

Zach Allia, creator of the popular Free Gifts Facebook application (8 million users), has added a Firefox gift collection you can send to friends and relatives as an easy and fun way to introduce them to Firefox.

You will need to add the Free Gift application to access the collection. Once added, you can click on Show more gift collections, then on Mozilla Firefox Collection.

Firefox 3 T-shirt design contest: Vote!

Five finalists have been selected from more than 2000 entries for the Firefox 3 T-shirt design contest. Only one of my favorite designs was selected and I still believe some of them were better executed than some of the finalists while delivering similar messages, but a design contest is as subjective as it gets so no big surprise here.

Mozilla pulls back Fight Against Boredom campaign

Mozilla Marketing VP, Paul Kim, announced today that Mozilla has decided to pull back the Fight Against Boredom campaign mainly due to poor response to the video it is centered on.

“There hasn’t been a strong positive response from the Mozilla community to the video that is the centerpiece of the campaign. We don’t plan to spend any more time on this campaign as it’s clear that people aren’t inspired by the video. We’ve learned what we needed to and we will move on to try new things.”, said Paul in a blog post.

Sad false start for Firefox viral marketing campaign

Mozilla is planning a marketing campaign labeled Fight Against Boredom based on a viral video apparently featuring actors playing stereotypes and real Firefox users. This seems to be the video filmed a few weeks ago Mozilla called fans to participate on.

Foxkeh wallpaper January 2008For Foxkeh, it’s 2008 already. To celebrate the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the Mozilla Japan team will enroll Foxkeh on a different sport each month.
For January, it is skiing. Perhaps not the best choice for the Summer Olympic Games but well, it’s winter in Japan so give him a break.

You can suggest your favorite sports for the coming months on Foxkeh’s blog.
