We’ve got a logo, by graphicsguru

Published: April 25th, 2008

Mozilla Links logo by Jamey BojeThanks to Jamey Boje, the graphicsguru, who kindly offered to design a new Mozilla Links logo to match the new look, Mozilla Links now features a real well done one I am very pleased to introduce to you all.

Black and red is Mozilla, and links are links, hence, Mozilla Links. Simple, clear, and greatly executed by Jamey.

He is a frequent contributor to Mozilla related projects where graphic design talent is needed. Among other works, he is responsible for much of Spread Firefox and Foxiewire art and design, tons of banners and buttons, and the Firefox and Thunderbird CD art. He has also collaborated with other projects including Drupal, Radscripts, Glaxstar,  phpCow, ionCube, and R3N3.

I want to thank Jamey for his selfless contribution and hope all you readers enjoy it in ML’s pages and your tab bars!

A new face for Mozilla Links

Published: April 23rd, 2008

It’s been almost a year since the last major update to Mozilla Links look and, to be honest, it gets boring to look at the same page so many times a day every single day. Besides, it was broken. At some point in time I messed so much with the Vertigo WordPress theme to the point it was too much pain to fix.

Your favorite Firefox 3 features

Published: February 13th, 2008

Which are your favorite Firefox 3 features? Share your opinion in Mozilla Links’s latest poll.

Mine are the new location bar, download pause and resume and offline web applications support. The new location bar let me forget about keywords, bookmarks and history except for very rare occasions. It brings much of Places power to one text box.

Site updates

Published: May 3rd, 2007

You may have noticed a couple of changes to Mozilla Links:

Add Mozilla Links search pluginThe logo has changed. I kept the old donut shape but dropped Mozilla products’ colors for simple Mozilla black and red. Tying the logo color to Mozilla products resulted in a too colorful icon. The favicon is now much sharper and truly transparent thanks to The Gimp. I’ve found it to be very unintuitive but once you manage to understand its weird personality you may get to love it.

A search plugin is now available. You will notice the search engine button lights blue at Mozilla Links now. Click on it and select Add “Mozilla Links” to add it as a search plugin to make it easier to find any past content. This Mozilla Developer Center’s guide is all I needed. Neat!

Expect some other minor improvements and please feel free at any time to drop your comments and suggestions. I really appreciate them. Thanks for reading.

Mozilla Links wins Add-ons Promotion Contest

Published: April 16th, 2007

What a nice way to start the week! I just learned at Spread Firefox that Mozilla Links’ review of Forum Additive, has won the Add-ons Promotion Contest, launched last February by Ken Saunders, Jackie Liu, Marco Casteleijn and Otto de Voogd, who also acted as jury.

The top 10:

  1. 23 Forum Additive - reviewed by Mozilla Links
  2. 22 Adblock Plus - reviewed by Vikas Sah
  3. 19 ScrapBook - [Spanish] reviewed by Leandro Ardissone
  4. 18 CoLT - reviewed by ffextensionguru
  5. 14 NewsFox - reviewed by Mozilla Links
  6. 12 Secure Login - reviewed by Mozilla Links
  7. 12 DownThemAll! - [Spanish] reviewed by Zona Firefox
  8. 10 FoxFilter - reviewed by Mozilla Links
  9. 10 Google Toolbar 3 - reviewed by Cybernetnews
  10. 9 FavLoc - reviewed by Mozilla Links
  11. 9 Download Statusbar - reviewed by ffextensionguru

Congrats to Vikas Sah, Leandro Ardissone, the Firefox Extension Guru, Zona Firefox and Cybernet News. I can see it was a tight decision.

Thanks to Jackie, Ken, Otto and Marco for organizing this contest and providing yet another incentive to keep up with Mozilla development.

And finally thanks to all the readers of Mozilla Links and the contest reviews for taking their time to give a look at our work.

Meet the new Mozilla Links

Published: February 19th, 2007

After a long day, the new face of Mozilla Links is up and right in front of you.

What’s new?

  • A new base theme. This is Vertigo by Brian Gardner. I think it is as elegant and clear as I was wishing for. But it looked too serious at the beginning so I tried to relax it a bit (I am more of a serious guy anyway) with some color and minor tweaks.
  • A new logo. The four colors represent Mozilla core products: Thunderbird, Firefox, Sunbird and Camino, all linked together forming a circle (I like circles). The top navigation bar remains black as a reference to the classic Mozilla web site.
  • Inobtrusive advertisement. Hopefully you will find the new advertisement layout less obtrusive (and so you will feel absolutely compelled to click on).
  • Related stories are now served for each article powered by Related Entries, yet another powerful WordPress plugin.
  • New resources page which centralizes bookmarklets, downloadable calendars, web feed reader plugins, glossary (under construction) and all others, thanks to Subpage Listing.

Thanks to all the people who left comments, I read them all and appreciate them. Hope you all enjoy the new look. You can expect even better content to come.

There are some minor issues in my to-do list which I expect to to iron in the next few days. Internet Explorer and Opera users should have no headache now when accessing Mozilla Links however.

Please take some time to leave feedback, suggestions and your vote in the latest poll. Enjoy!

Entering update mode

Published: February 19th, 2007

I will be working on a facelift to Mozilla Links today so expect to see some weird things around. I’ll try to make it as fast as I can to minimize the annoyance. Hopefully we will all end up with a more beautiful look.

If there is something you may want to comment regarding Mozilla Links’ look this is your best chance to get it. I am aware of its weird look in IE and Opera. anything else? I’d appreciate your sincere and merciless comments.
