Thunderbird is also nominated in the Communication category.

Among other Mozilla related products there are XMarks, formerly Foxmarks, which started as a bookmark synchronizing Firefox add-on; as well as the social-oriented Flock, and mobile browser Skyfire in the Browsing category. Postbox is nominated in the Communications category.

Opera, Chrome, WebKit, Maxthon, triple-engined Lunascape, and Safari are all also nominated in the browsing category.

Among the most relevant new features is an automatic update system, support for OpenSearch engines, integration with KeyChain, Mac OS X’s integrated credential repository, the ability to pass web feeds to online feed aggregators such  as Google Reader, a new Find toolbar displayed near the bottom, improved AppleScript support, and general user interface improvements including some new and retouched icons.

Camino 1.6 is available for download in eleven languages from Camino web site.

Among other stability and minor improvements, from the release notes:

• When quitting after closing all tabs, Camino will no longer crash.
• Opening a .url file with Open downloaded files enabled will no longer cause Camino to attempt to download the file repeatedly.
• Camino will no longer crash when using the Trash button in the Downloads window.
• Pressing Tab in an editable table view now advances to the next control properly on Mac OS X 10.5.
• Camino now sets the default home page properly on first launch.

Beta 2 has some notable improvements over Alpha 1, released back in December:

• When saving a web page as a PDF from the Print dialog, Camino suggests the page’s title as the filename.
• Deleted bookmarks will be removed from bookmark search result lists.
• The list of default bookmarks created with a fresh installation of Camino has been extensively revised.
• Bookmarks created without visiting a page now have a “Last Visited” date of “Never.”
• Camino provides the Mac OS X 10.5 Quarantine system with enhanced information about downloaded files.
• On Mac OS X 10.4 and above, Camino sets the “Where From” metadata attribute on downloaded files.
• It is no longer possible to accidentally hide the toolbar in the Preferences window.
• Cookies, cookie exceptions, and keychain exclusions are now grouped by site when sorting.
• It is now possible to select an entry for a particular server in the cookies exceptions list and make that exception apply to other servers at the same site.
• Improved the accessibility of preference panes by ensuring proper tab key behavior when Full Keyboard Access is enabled.
• The list of sites for which Camino never saves passwords can now be edited in the Privacy preference pane.
• Resetting Camino now clears the “Last Visited” date on bookmarks.
• It is no longer possible to cut or copy the contents of password fields.
• The Find panel has been replaced by a Find toolbar that appears near the bottom of the browser window.
• The search field in the toolbar now includes a simple editor that allows deleting, renaming, or reordering search engines.
• Camino now supports OpenSearch search engine plug-ins. New search engines can be added to the toolbar’s search field by automatic discovery, or by web pages that provide links to OpenSearch plug-ins.
• The initially-focused button and tab order in alerts and other dialogs now follow the expected behavior.
• Upgraded the “Block Flash animations” code to use Flashblock 1.5.5.
• Camino now hides the cursor when using the Page Up and Page Down keys.

Camino 1.6 Alpha users can update to Beta 2 selecting Check for Updates… in the Camino menu. Otherwise, you can get Camino 1.6 Beta 2 from the preview site. Keep in mind “it may be unstable and not suitable for day-to-day use”.

Alpha 1 brings several important improvements:

• Tabs can be scrolled with the mouse wheel or a couple of buttons that appear on tab overflow. A tab list provides a quick way to access other tabs. This is similar to Firefox 2 implementation.
• Extended support for AppleScript: bookmarks can now be added, deleted and edited through Camino exposed interfaces. Specific windows and tabs can also be referenced.
• Camino now checks if there are updates available.
• It includes Firefox as part of its user-agent string. Some web sites incorrectly check for the Firefox string instead of the more precise Gecko to determine browser capabilities which leads to limited versions of the site served to equally capable browsers.

As any Alpha, it is not recommended for public use but mainly for developers and enthusiasts.

• Upgraded to version 1.8.1.11 of the Mozilla Gecko rendering engine, which includes several critical security and stability fixes.
• Improved compatibility with some DHTML websites.
• Camino can now set the default browser or feed reader in cases where no application had already been set as the default.
• Sub-menus in the History menu now open more quickly and are capped at 50 items.
• The Camino application icon now contains a 512×512 pixel version for better integration with Mac OS X 10.5.
• On Mac OS X 10.5, the first tooltip displayed on a page now appears properly.
• The status bar now takes on the dark grey, rounded appearance on Mac OS X 10.5.
• Camino will now purge expired site icons from the site icon cache when quitting.
• Improved ad-blocking.

While there is no documentation on what’s new on this update, it’s always advisable to stay on top and avoid incompatibilities the update may already fix.

To check what Flash Player version you are currently running, enter about:plugins in the location bar. Look for the Shockwave Flash section. You will see the current version as illustrated in the picture above. If you have anything different from 9.0 r47 you are running an older version.

To update, visit Adobe Flash Player Download Center to get the appropriate version for your computer. Once downloaded, close Firefox, and run the installers (most likely you will find it in your computer desktop) and restart Firefox.

A new release of Camino, the Mozilla based browser with native Mac OS X controls, has been released. After more than one year in development, the new version features spell checking, session restore, improved tab browsing, compatibility with Keychain (Mac OS X unified credentials management system), web feeds detection, a resizable search bar, enhanced popup blocking, ability to block Flash animations, preferences window redesign among other nice improvements.

“Spell checking with suggestions, single window mode, improved popup blocking, flash and plugin blocking, session saving, keychain interop with Safari, RSS feed detection, tab jumpback, resizable search field, custom profiles …and much much much more! [...] It hardly seems like a small effort. Personally, I don’t think calling it Camino 1.1 does it justice, it’s more like a 1.5, so that’s exactly what we’ve done.”, read Mike Pinkerton’s post announcing the change.

Camino 1.5 is due on late May.

Thunderbird, has been updated as well. Stability improvements and patches for 6 security vulnerabilities (2 labeled as critical) are being served. Update now.
