As in previous year, Webware has announced the finalists for their Webware 100 award in 10 web related categories. Firefox has been nominated in the Browsing category, but this year it is not the only Mozilla product in the category: Camino, the Mac OS X native Mozilla-based browser, and Ubiquity, Mozilla Labs’ experimental command line interface are also nominated.
Thunderbird is also nominated in the Communication category.
Among other Mozilla related products there are XMarks, formerly Foxmarks, which started as a bookmark synchronizing Firefox add-on; as well as the social-oriented Flock, and mobile browser Skyfire in the Browsing category. Postbox is nominated in the Communications category.
Opera, Chrome, WebKit, Maxthon, triple-engined Lunascape, and Safari are all also nominated in the browsing category.
Vote at Webware 100 before April 30.

January 22, 2008 - 10:18 am
The Camino project has released the second beta version of Camino 1.6, the Mozilla-based native Mac OS X browser. Beta 1 didn’t live long to go public due to a crashing bug which made necessary a quick Beta 2.
December 11, 2007 - 4:23 pm
The Camino project has released a very early version of Camino 1.6, the next major upgrade.
Alpha 1 brings several important improvements:
- Tabs can be scrolled with the mouse wheel or a couple of buttons that appear on tab overflow. A tab list provides a quick way to access other tabs. This is similar to Firefox 2 implementation.
- Extended support for AppleScript: bookmarks can now be added, deleted and edited through Camino exposed interfaces. Specific windows and tabs can also be referenced.
- Camino now checks if there are updates available.
- It includes Firefox as part of its user-agent string. Some web sites incorrectly check for the Firefox string instead of the more precise Gecko to determine browser capabilities which leads to limited versions of the site served to equally capable browsers.
As any Alpha, it is not recommended for public use but mainly for developers and enthusiasts.

The Camino project has released Camino 1.5.4, an update that includes Gecko 1.8.1.11, the latest version of Mozilla’s rendering engine included with Firefox 2.0.0.11 and a handful of improvements. From the release notes:
July 17, 2007 - 10:35 am
Adobe has released an update for Adobe Flash Player 9 plugin for all Gecko-based browsers: Firefox, Netscape, SeaMonkey, Flock, Camino, etc.
While there is no documentation on what’s new on this update, it’s always advisable to stay on top and avoid incompatibilities the update may already fix.

A new release of Camino, the Mozilla based browser with native Mac OS X controls, has been released. After more than one year in development, the new version features spell checking, session restore, improved tab browsing, compatibility with Keychain (Mac OS X unified credentials management system), web feeds detection, a resizable search bar, enhanced popup blocking, ability to block Flash animations, preferences window redesign among other nice improvements.
You can download Camino 1.5 from the Camino web site. Learn more about it with the release notes.

Next release of Camino, the native Mac OS X Gecko-based browser, will be 1.5 instead of the expected 1.1 so it better reflects the many improvements the new version will bring.
“Spell checking with suggestions, single window mode, improved popup blocking, flash and plugin blocking, session saving, keychain interop with Safari, RSS feed detection, tab jumpback, resizable search field, custom profiles …and much much much more! [...] It hardly seems like a small effort. Personally, I don’t think calling it Camino 1.1 does it justice, it’s more like a 1.5, so that’s exactly what we’ve done.”, read Mike Pinkerton’s post announcing the change.
Camino 1.5 is due on late May.
January 11, 2007 - 2:25 pm
The Camino project has reached another important step towards its first major update labeled 1.1, largely based on Firefox 2 code.
Among the improvements:
- Interoperability with MacOS X Keychain for password storage, still in development
- Session saving
- Bookmarks backup
- Spell checking
- Resizable search bar
- Hotkeys for the first nine bookmarks in the bookmark toolbar (I’d like to see this in Firefox).
