Moving Mozilla Links from Blogger to WordPress

When I first tried this about a year ago usging WordPress’ import feature it didn’t work. Since then I’ve been looking for a way that actually worked but have had no success. Until today. And it happened to be a very simple and secure process. Here’s what i did:

  1. I classified my Blogger posts assigning Round1, Round2, Roundx… labels to groups of 25, since this seems to be the limit for Blogger web feed items. I classified them chronologically which made the most sense for me, but I think any random labeling of 25 posts would be OK.
  2. I then downloaded the RSS feeds (the one WordPress 2.2 supports) by pointing to http://mozillalinks2.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default/-/round1?alt=rss, http://mozillalinks2.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default/-/round2?alt=rss http://mozillalinks2.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default/-/roundx?alt=rss and so. For this to work, full web feeds must be enabled in Blogger: Settings/Site Feed/Blog Posts Fees: Full. It is also important the alt=rss part because Blogger serves Atom by default.
  3. Then in WordPress I went to Manage/Import/RSS feed and imported each downloaded xml file.

The import went flawlessly with dates properly imported but all landed in the Articles category and comments are not imported. None of them a big deal for me. WordPress recognized a duplicate post I have manually imported in the past.

So now I have finally saved a part of Mozilla Links’ history. Hope this helps somebody else.
