On Prism and Prism Mobile

Matthew Gertner, former CTO of now defunct AllPeers, an excellent Firefox extension I miserably failed to properly review several times has an excellent writeup on TechCrunch, on Prism, Mozilla’s proposition for desktop enabled web apps and similar products from Adobe and Microsoft. You may want to give it a look.

Also, Antonio Gomes, a Brazilian contributor to Maemo (Nokia N series’ open source operating system), announced today that he’s got a working version of Prism on his tablet.

There is no binary yet (just code you could download and build), but according to his blog post, it is based on the latest Firefox 3 pre-beta 5 nightlies. He included some screenshots of meebo and Gmail running as standalone web apps.

The prism folks need to do a better job of explaining the difference between a URL shortcut and Prism. This is one of the most frequently asked questions.
