28% of New York Times visitors use Firefox
In a post in the New York Times web site about the 500 million Firefox downloads milestone reached yesterday, the author, Miguel Left, shared that about 28% of NYTimes.com visitors do it with Firefox.
Statistics for popular web sites (ranked 233 by Alexa) are scarce and it’s always good to know Firefox is doing particularly great in well reputed sites with wide audiences.
Also yesterday, PC World’s Harry McCracken shared that Firefox share reached 34% on January, having more than doubled over the last three years.
In the past, WordPress’ Matt Mullenweg shared that about 30% of WordPress.com visitors used Firefox.
According to the post, Internet Explorer commands with 60% of visitors, while Safari shows a high 10% share.

Just try visiting the New York Times site with Minefield 3.1b2pre. Crashes every time.

That is actually not that much compared with the fact that in many countries in Europe, the average over all sites as larger than 30%, in some countries even more than 40%. The computer magazine web page heise.de has published that more than 50% of its online visitors use Firefox (http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/102722)
All indicators seem to suggest that higher education and higher computer literacy correlates with a higher rate of Firefox usage.
