Correo, a native Mac OS X email client

Nick Kreeger has released Correo 0.3, a native Mac OS X email client based on Thunderbird code.

Unlike Thunderbird, the user interface is created not with XUL, Mozilla cross-platform UI language, but with native Mac OS X elements, for better, easier integration with the operating system visual elements.

Correo (which means mail in Spanish), features an intentional overall look similar to Camino. The theme and icons are designed by Jon Hicks, the author of Camino icons, Firefox and Thunderbird logos and currently working on Firefox 3 theme.

This third iteration adds better IMAP and international character support, as well as Leopard support.

Future development will include “plugin capability (to allow development of extensions such as PDA synchronization), tabbed window interface, address book support, keychain access, and various other to-be-determined features”, according to Correo’s web site.
