Maximum PC: Firefox, one of the greatest PC technologies

By Percy Cabello

Firefox has been inducted to the 100 greatest PC technologies of all time, a list compiled by Maximum PC and the feature story of its December issue. In position 92:

92 Mozilla Firefox (2004) It’s the open-source browser you know and love. Firefox regularly implements new features ahead of Internet Explorer, while also eating away at the latter’s market share.

Maximum PC December 2007

Well, not my personal reasons for considering it a groundbreaking PC technology but it’s nice to know it is considered as one. My take would have been for proving consumer open source software is viable and bringing web standards to the forefront of browsers’ requirements.

It is a credible and fun list that includes flash memory (82), Ubuntu (50), the Thinkpad 700 (38), the original IBM PC keyboard (21), MP3 (11), Doom (10) and Mosaic (4) among my favorite inductees. The list is topped by an indisputable disrupter that effectively saved humanity from millions of headaches.
