Firefox aboard ASUS’ Eee PC
Asus launched yesterday it longly expected Eee PC, a low cost laptio that aims to deliver core functionality for casual computer users.
The operating system is based on Xandros Linux and features a simplified task-oriented interface where applications are organized into Internet, Work, Learn and Play.

Web access is provided by a Firefox version that looks very similar to the default installation save the small icons in the toolbar.

Some other Internet functionality like Web Mail, Wikipedia, Internet Radio and Google Docs are just special bookmarks that open Firefox with the relevant web page.
Other applications included are Pidgin, the multi network instant messenger, Skype which allows to use the included web cam and microphone to place video and audio conferences.
OpenOffice.org, Longman’s dictionary, TuxMath, TuxPaint, a media manager, photo manager, media player, Frozen Bubble, Solitaire, Sudoku and other applications are also included and designed to serve a wide range of users from business to kids.
All models include a 7″ screen, WiFi, MMC/SD readers along with the mentioned microphone and web cam. The 2 GB flash drive/256 MB RAM version is available for $199. Other models featuring up to an 8 GB flash drive and 512 MB of RAM will become available soon.

it is very hard to update and install software eg adobe flash and Firefox. i am considering changing os this i i very annoying!

When I played with one in Toys’R'Us I noted the “check for updates” and similar functions have been removed.
