Ubuntu 7.10 improvements for Firefox users
Ubuntu released today a beta version of forthcoming Ubuntu 7.10 (code name Gutsy Gibbon), scheduled for final release on October.
It includes a couple of nice improvements for Firefox users.
First, it adds a wizard for users to easily find and install necessary plugins. In the screenshot below (courtesy of Ubuntu) the Plugin Finder Service is offering Flash and Gnash (the open source version of the Flash player).

Ubuntu also adds a link to the Add-ons Manager window that launches an extensions repository to easily add or remove prepackaged extensions. Definitey a plus for users as this will allows them to more easily find one that suits them. It is similar to the redesign Firefox Add-ons Manager is undergoing (on all platforms) and should be available by milestone 9, around mid-October. More on this in a later post.

It blows me away that people have built in ‘fear’ of things open source. Keep up the great work.
