Please help Peru, my country

As you may know, Peru was struck by a 7.9 degrees earthquake on last Wednesday’s night. As damages are being assessed we are starting to realize how big the damage has been and it has turned to be pretty serious, specially in Pisco, a small city about 93 miles south from Lima were about 127,000 people live.

About 70% of the city is now destroyed, more than 500 people died and about 1,500 were injured during the earthquake.

Your donation could help some of the thousands of people who have suddenly become homeless just in the middle of winter.

In the United States, the Peruvian Embassy is receiving donations by check or wire transfer. Alternative ways include online money transfer through several providers including Xoom which accepts Paypal and is the one I used.

The transfer is done to an Interbank savings account (200-0000001118) created for this purpose. You can enter Damnificados Terremoto (earthquake victims) for the name and last names. I entered Interbank’s own customer service phone number for reference.

Other ways include Xoom, Bancomercio, Uno, Dolex, BTS, Viamericas, Ria, Transfast, Pronto Envíos, Vigo, Bob Travel, Girosol, MFIC, Intertransfers y Mateo Express. All of them will allow a transfer to the Interbank account.
