Madeleine McCann, a 4 year old British girl is missing. She was abducted in Praia da Luz, a village in Portugal on May 3rd, 2007. One distinguishing feature is that one of her pupils runs into the iris of her right eyes. The international number for Crime stoppers is +44 1883 731 336. We all hope she’s safe and she’s found. We also hope the doubtless scores of other not white blonde developed-world females who disappeared the same week are given some attention too.
This is not wrong, per se. Yet I’m extremely disappointed in this site. If you’re going to have a Public Service section, I really hope you’ll reconsider your biases. I’m guessing you don’t intend to be biased, and I’m not throwing around accusations of racism. But seriously, this is very sad.

Marcus, I didn’t know about this until a kind reader took the time to let me know and suggested spreading the news. I expected comments like yours but a remote chance of a ML reader being the one who spot her is definitely worth the annoyance. My only bias regarding this matter is lazyness which is helped when a reader takes the time to call my attention.
Having said that I’ve felt the same way sometime when I realize some cases got all the attention while thousands others go through the same or worse situations in the dark.
While writing this I thought about adding a feed from some missing children organization. I found this: http://www.missingkids.com/, then I guess if I do that someone will complain that it’s about US children only. And I guess any other alternative will have its downside. Anyway I’ll see what can I do.

Thanks for your response. I understand it’s an extremely complex issue. I just couldn’t help but comment, mostly out of frustration. And that’s coming from a guy with two white developed-world daughters.
In reality its CNN, ABC, NBC, Time, et al, who I should be venting at for productizing these stories. And some people would argue that it can be helpful to have general attention given to missing child problems through these perfect-child cases, but I doubt objective analysis would show much benefit.
In any case, the reply is appreciated, and I just hope the additional statements to this effect in these comments can remind people to look at the overall picture and see what we can do.

Pictures do not always look like their authors want them to be seen. The present situation in Portugal is quite different from what most people believe, taken away by mind washing publicity. Tourist on holidays always know nothing or very little about any country they go. However, foreigners living in place always get to know the truth.
This is a general picture good in any circumstances, applying to every country, as well as to all tourists or residents.
Obviously, this is why most people in the UK seem to be astonished with a situation, when British people living in place have not been that much surprised about the facts. Everything is much worse that those less informed may think.
Something very significant showing all this and rather more went on the «Prós e Contras» program about Madeleine’s abduction on the national public TV, RTP1 (Radio Televisão Portuguesa), broadcasted on 14th May 2007. People should hear what a special reporter speaks about other Europeans, including the British press and police, crime and people. You should get a record of that program and show it around, letting everyone know about.
The police did not act adequately right from the beginning. There are still nine children missing and they have never done what they should, How could it be expected they would behave properly now with Madeleine?
It is not possible to explain everything clearly here, it would be an abuse to this blog, but there are texts on the internet explaining the situation, some are there for years, so this is nothing new. Whoever is acquainted with the facts knows what to expect.

please please if you know where little madeleine mccann is please i beg you let her go back to her family. I dont know what it is that your trying to achive taking her away from the people she loves and who love her but whatever it is please stop it now and give her back!! Cant you see all the damage that you have causes all over the world. I have been reading this story for some time. with different newspapers theres different storys,some how I find it very hard to beleive someone went into the room where there were three children and took one child. I feel maybe madaline was unhappy at some stage and went looking for her parents or started to walk somewhere .I am 28 years old I have not had children as yet but I find it very worrying that someone could have this young girl its an experience that everyone can feel,and I am hoping that this will made everyone who is reading this watching this involved. will be more protective,and have a special eye to take a look at things we try to over look.she has to be somewhere.

Apart from the link I’ve left before, I’ve found another very interesting site with posts also about the Portuguese police, where you can understand why everything is so bad so wrong and do backward in Portugal, what makes the police to be too. I am a 12 year old girl living in northern ireland and i have a bebo page.My flashbox is of some pictures of little madaline and cristina agrularia’s song “young girl,don’t cry”.whoever took little madaline from her happiness is sick,i have a younger brother(3) and sister(2) and my brothers birthday is on the same day as madalines,he wanted to share his cake with this poor little girl.Every night when i am in my bed i cry and i say my prayers and say 1 decade of the rosary for the happy return of little madaline and my nanny says a whole rosary!Here is a poem i have made:

This story brought tears to my eyes after I saw it on the news I cant even find the words to describe how it makes me feel that this sort of thing can happen.
