Review: Download Manager Tweak

By Percy Cabello

Download Manager TweakDownload Manager Tweak is a simple Firefox extension developed by andman42, that adds flexibility and visibility to the Firefox’s Download Manager.

It adds a small toolbar to the download manager where it centralizes open (launch), and open folder functions, while strangely the remove action remains on each download.

More interesting is its Options window where you can select to open the modified download manager in a new window, in a new tab or as a sidebar, and whether you want a delay before opening it. While there is an easy hack to move the download manager to the sidebar or a tab that doesn’t require installing an extension, some users may find it easier and prefer the slightly modified layout.

Options for showing the toolbar at the bottom, selecting buttons to show, queue downloads and whether you want to be notified or not when downloads are done are also available. I find the option to select where to open the download manager its best trick but I would like to see it as a simple pull down menu in the download page in the Options window.

Get it at Mozilla Add-ons.

This is nice extension. My girlfriend uses it to get her downloads in a sidebar, which is handy on her widescreen.
