Firefox user profile, the real one
Internet research firm comScore, has posted some interesting details about Firefox users to its corporate blog, comScore Voices:
- Firefox market share varies considerably among home (10%), work (8%) and university (17%).
- Most Firefox users are male (55%). Internet Explorer users are evenly distributed by gender (50/50).
- 51% of Firefox users make $75,000 a year or more. Only 39% of Internet Explorer pockets that much a year.
- 22% of Firefox users are 18 – 24 years old, while only 13% of IE users are in the same range. IE has a larger portion of its users in very other age range.
This is pretty interesting as a simple read this could mean that in the mid future (5 – 10 years) we could see a spark in Firefox adoption as these young users become decision makers and take their preferences and values to their respective companies.
On the other hand I don’t see the correlation between Firefox userbase youth and higher salaries. So, if salary figures could be focused on a specific age range we should see a much larger gap between Firefox early adopters and Internet Explorer users. And of course I say early adopters because I am pretty sure installing Firefox won’t get you a rise. But being an early adopter I guess can be mapped somehow to being enthusiastic, fearless, curious and critical thinker which can in turn be associated with a higher wage. Since Firefox is free, it’s not the “I-have-the-latest-fricking-expensive-no-idea-what-it’s-for-gadget” early adopter kind. I hope.
