Store, search and share your visited web pages

Breadcrumbs, developed by David Kellog, is a powerful extension that takes searching your browsing history to the next level. It stores a local copy of every page you visit and keeps an index that can be searched later from Firefox’s own search bar.

Breadcrum

Breadcrumbs is based in a mini web server that provides the interface to search the index, so it is also available for any other users that may be in your network and know your IP address. This is a cool convenience for workgroups but could also be a privacy or even a security threat. Fortunately, Breadcrumbs lets you set a username and password to restrict access to your index.

In the other end you can enter the IP address of other peers and Breadcrumb will perform the search concurrently. I couldn’t find a way to limit the index or page storage size though.

If there are some sites you don’t want to track you can add them to a blacklist as well, and you can stop recording visited sites at any time.

Breadcrumbs falls in the temptation of adding yet another item to the tools menu for Options, Search Pages and Stop Recording…. These could be better served in the default Add-on’s options, a simple bookmark and an optional button for the toolbar or status bar, respectively.

All in all, a very useful extension. You can get Breadcrumbs at Mozilla Add-Ons.

Doesn’t Google Desktop already do this? What is the difference?

    Thanks!

Well now I have another extension to chechout.

I really don’t care for Google Desktop. It sounds like this extension just stores the pages in a folder on your hard drive, not take over your desktop.
