Site specific preferences

Myk Melez, creator of microsummaries, the technology behind Firefox 2 live titles is working in a new, frequently requested feature that would allow users to set and save preferences for individual sites.

Initially released as a Firefox 2 extension dubbed Content Preferences, it currently only allows to set a custom text size for a site you are visiting, but aims to provide any kind of site preferences such as a default dictionary for spell checking, a certain page style, JavaScript/plugins execution, etc. Also the possibility of allocating more internal storage for certain web sites would allow a larger cache and faster back and forward navigation for these.

So far, this extension is helping me to tolerate Yahoo! Mail beta’s tiny font automatically adjusting it every time I check email and I guess may users will want to reduce Flickr’s font as well.
Testers should note that as Myk explains “a site, for the purposes of this early prototype, is the set of pages hosted at the exact same domain name (f.e. everything on en-us.www.mozilla.com).” Obviously an imperfect definition as Myk notes himself but fair enough for this stage of development.

You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.
