Mozilla and Adobe announced yesterday that they will join efforts to deliver a more solid JavaScript implementation that could interact with browser and Flash elements at the same time and in a single logical space.

Adobe has open sourced its ActionScript virtual machine and will be the foundation of a new Mozilla project dubbed Tamarin. The results of this effort: better performance and better interoperability, however aren't expected until after Firefox 3, which according to recent, dismaying reports, is expected for late next year.

Mozilla's Frank Hecker gives more insight on this important announcement.

My bad, it must be next year. Corrected. Thanks.
