With Firefox updating capabilities which make it a matter of just seconds, it’s hard to believe many people is not on the bleeding edge of Firefox release. Tell us, what Firefox version are you using (just check in the About option in the Help menu). And if you are not using the latest 1.5.0.4, please leave a comment. Thanks.

Currently using the release candidate of beta 2. And while I know that the beta 2 is out, I’m always on the bleeding edge!

I’m using 2.0a(lpha)3, and I’m eager to see the feature-complete 2.0beta1. It’s always nice to look ahead and see what’s coming to the masses and I’m not afraid of losing data or personal information - in general, I find alpha and beta releases quite stable and more secure.

I’m using 1.5.0.4 at work. But at home, I’m still on 1.5.0.x. Unfortunately, I’m one of the few remaining dinosaurs who has dial-up at home. Large downloads are painful and I need to plan ahead for them so I don’t let firefox automatically update unless I happen to remember some time late in the evening after I’m done working, but with enough time to let it finish (how long was that going to take again? how big is that update anyway? at 5 kb/s how long will it take to download 12 MB?) so I can disconnect from the internet when it’s done. Likewise, major version updates or new computer installs take -=FOREVER=-, so I don’t do them very often either.

If I remember correctly an 1.5.0.x update is about 500KB I believe. And worst case should be a full Firefox 1.5.0.4 download, which is about 5MB or 15 minutes on dial up. Guess you may want to give it a try and time it.

You may find the statistics that ChatZilla gathers (with user consent, naturally) quite interesting.

    http://silver.warwickcompsoc.co.uk/mozilla/chatzilla/instrumentation/?week-by-week=host

The first gives an indication of what proportion of people might be sticking to the 1.0 branch, while the second shows how effective the auto-update in 1.5 is.
