Restore Firefox former web address styling

With the latest major update, Firefox got a new style for the web address in the location bar: the default http protocol is hidden and only the domain part of the web address is hihglighted so it is easier for you to check if you are where you want to be.

If you don’t like it, don’t sweat it though.  With a couple of clicks you can undo the styling:

  1. Access advanced preferences entering about:config in the location bar
  2. Look for browser.urlbar.formatting.enabled. Double-click it to set it to false.
  3. Look for browser.urlbar.trimURLs. Again, double-click it to set it to false.

Done! You’ve gone retro!

  1. Thanks for the tip!

I love the formatting–it’s one of the things I liked about Chrome. Not so big on the trimmed URLs–I copy and paste URLs into emails and text messages all the time, and it’s nice to have the “http://” already there without having to retype it.

Is there an option or feature to automatically prepend the URL with the “http://” whenever it is selected or the user enters the URL bar? If not, maybe Firefox needs to add one…

    Thanks again!
