Rob:
"So this is Mozilla’s fault?" -> I don't see anywhere that the "woman in free software issue" is Mozilla's fault. We don't believe it is in any case, and have never made any assumption about that.

"And throwing money and resources at this will help? Or will it just detract away from the project?"
And from where do you get that we are in any way financed for this project?!
This is a community project that has started out because some people firmly believe that FLOSS and Mozilla need more women, and that women need more visibility. The people that believe this are joining, and they are the ones that will help the project evolve.
I won't get into details as this project is apparently not a concern to you, however I would like to state again that we are in NO WAY financed for this project (look at our wiki, I think that's enough proof ;) ). Not that it is a bad thing to be, but please check out your sources and information before asserting wrong things.
And as this is a community-driven project, I don't see how this can be distracting to Mozilla. The worst it can do is bring more women contributors, and I don't think that having more contributors is a bad thing

"If women were interested, they would work on this and they may be no more interested in this than I am in joining the local sewing circle." -> Women interested are working on this project and they are the ones who have contacted us because they firmly believe this type of project is important. If women AND men weren't interested, this project wouldn't even exist.
And if women weren't interested, I doubt groups such as LinuxChix or Debian Women would exist...
Now if you meant that women aren't interested in IT and such, maybe there would be more women if they had the same, equal access to computers as men. And if men stopped assuming that they were not interested...

I'm betting on the latter and that this will be a resources drain that will affect nothing at all. If women were interested, they would work on this and they may be no more interested in this than I am in joining the local sewing circle.
