With Firefox 3.5 final release approaching fast, Mozilla Labs is aiming to mitigate what usually becomes the main reason for not upgrading soon to the new Firefox: one of your favorite extensions is not ready for the changes, while encouraging creative development.

Starting today and until October 2, later this year, add-on developers can update their extensions, or create new ones to enter another edition of Extend Firefox, a contest that awards cool prizes including 15″ and 13″ MacBook Pros, TextMate IDE, Versions SVN client, and ExpanDrive licenses, Manning Publication ebooks, InformIT videos and books, and tons of Firefox goodies in fancy Ogio messenger bags; in for categories: New, Updated, Shopping, and Game & Entertainment.

You can help developers (and yourself) by suggesting an extension in the Mozilla Wiki. Could it be that finally somebody will make an extension to finger the tab that is playing some annoying background music?
