A large number of Mozilla Links readers will be pleased to know there’s a new extension that will let them stay better tuned to this and other site’s web feeds.

Google Reader Watcher is a Firefox extension developed by Ajnasz, that keeps an eye on your Google Reader subscriptions and lets you know when new items are available on any of them.

It adds an icon to the status bar along with the number of new items that are currently unread. Right click on the icon to go to Google Reader, check for updates or access more options.

You can tweak how frequent Google Reader Checker looks for updates and whether Google Reader should open in a new tab and if doing so resets the unread items counter or not.

A useful extension for the thousands of Google Reader users out there. The notifications could be more, well, noticeable, perhaps using the standard Firefox tray bar popup (in Windows at least).
