Firefox 3 release schedule draft

In the latest Firefox 3 status meeting, a release schedule draft was published. In brief:

  • Alpha 4, by the end of April
  • Alpha 5, by the end of May
  • Alpha 6, by the end of June
  • Beta 1, in July
  • Beta 2, on September

So, considering a run of release candidates during October, Firefox 3 should be around November according to this schedule. I find it somewhat aggresive considering almost all new Firefox 2 features were in place by this time last year which is definitely not the case for Gran Paradiso (Firefox 3 code name).

I hope the aggresive schedule doesn’t result in feature trimming. At least PDF saving, offline applications support, the improved download manager and full support for Vista (including parental controls and protected mode) all should get done, to keep Firefox on the edge. If Google at least jumps in the offline web applications wagon, it will become an instant differentiator for Firefox and a strong selling point.

If feature trimming is necessary then so be it, but this shouldn’t be an easy way out in order to meet deadlines.

As long as the most important new features are included I don’t see a problem. However, since ‘Places’ was bumped last time it would surely be embarrassing to have to do it again!

Well that schedule went out the window…

I am pretty sure they changed the schedule so this page is old news.

Haha…funny, they still have a lot of things to check off from their check-off list. It’s not that easy making a new software upgrade….it’s probably going to be out on something like this July

This page is quite out of date. FF3 B4 was released recently and FF3 full is expected well before April 29th. Most likely around April 1st.

At this point, I think it is easier to follow these things at
